Getting There Is Half the Fun

If you missed it, Part 1 covers our second Sanaa breakfast, the butter that got away from us, and an hour of jewelry making at Simba’s Hideaway. That evening we had a 5:40 reservation at Artist Point in Wilderness Lodge, so after our afternoon break, we took a bus to Magic Kingdom, then a boat over to Wilderness Lodge. I absolutely love a Disney boat ride, the Sassagoula River, anywhere around Bay Lake, I just love it, and this one was no different. It had also cooled down substantially by then, maybe 83 degrees and shady everywhere. Such a nice evening to be outside. We got to Wilderness Lodge, scouted out the gift shop, and then got our table.

A Little Less Fairy Tale in Daylight, Still Wonderful

I had been to Artist Point before and had ordered the gnocchi and veggies that time, which I did not love, but I did love the atmosphere and the whole Evil Queen theme. My mom loves villains, so I knew she would love this too. The last time I went was December of 2024, in the evening, so the restaurant was lit up with twinkle lights strung through the trees. This time our reservation was 5:40 in the summer, so it was still very sunny outside. It was still a fun experience, just not quite as fairy tale magical in the daylight. I did not even think about that difference until we were already seated.

Our waitress was fabulous and brought my mom special gluten-free appetizers. She ordered the prime rib, and I got the chicken with double veggies. Everything was so delicious, they really cook and season that food well.

The Evil Queen Meets Her Match

Dopey, Grumpy, and then Snow White came around to meet us. They were sweet and funny, and we got some great shots being grumpy right back at Grumpy. Here’s a tip if you’re a party of two: nobody is there to take your photo for you, so you either play phone ping pong handing it back and forth between characters, or one person has to get up and go over to the other person to take a selfie. We ended up just doing one photo with me and one with my mom for each character.

Nothing compared to my mom meeting the Evil Queen. It did not disappoint. My mom happened to be wearing an Evil Queen t-shirt, and the moment we walked up, the Evil Queen was completely locked in on her. She was totally obsessed with my mom. I stood off to the side just staring into space for a solid five minutes while the two of them huddled together like they were besties sharing secrets. I could not hear a word of what they were saying, but you can absolutely tell from the photos how much my mom was loving every second of it. It was perfect.

The Details That Make This Place Special

I also ordered an extra drink, a mocktail called Through the Forest. I got it last time too, and I love it, sweet but not too sweet, with fresh mint leaves, wildberry, lime juice, and sparkling water. So yummy and fresh. My mom got a special gluten-free dessert portion that was adorable. I love their appetizer trays with the little leaf details, and the desserts are always so on theme, especially the huntsman’s treasure and the dark chocolate heart at the end. I just love that whole experience and that food. Top notch, and I highly recommend it if you have any Snow White or Evil Queen fans in your group.

After dinner we headed back to the boats and went over to the Contemporary. We had thought about waiting around for the 8:30 silent disco there, but we were way too tired. We did a little pin trading instead, walked back to Magic Kingdom, and took the bus back to All-Star Sports.
