Rides Were Never the Point of This Trip

We weren’t planning on an early rope drop. We just happened to wake up earlier than expected, so we went with it. My mom isn’t big on rides, and honestly what I really wanted on this trip was to finally experience all of the shows and “filler attractions” that no one ever wants to take the time to do on a regular Disney trip. So rides, lines, and Lightning Lanes were just not our priority. The one exception: I bought us a single individual Lightning Lane for Rise of the Resistance, because I knew my mom would love it. It is more of a show than a ride anyway.

We were hoping Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway would be a walk-on first thing, but it was down, so our plan shifted to breakfast at Ronto Roasters instead.

Showing Mom Galaxy’s Edge

We walked around an empty Galaxy’s Edge and I got to show my mom everything.

She was totally impressed, flabbergasted really. She loved the Star Wars feel, but she was genuinely shocked at how worn and lived-in everything looked. She is so used to Disney being pristine and perfect that seeing it look intentionally old was a real shock, a good one though. She loved it once it clicked. We got our picture taken with some stormtroopers, then walked back around to the front and found Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway now open. We walked right on. She loved that ride too, so immersive and amazing, like a moving show you get to be part of.

A Character Breakfast Neither of Us Had Really Done

We met up with friends who had annual passes and were hoping to use their 40% off discount, but it turned out that discount only works Monday through Thursday and we were there on a Sunday. Bummer, but we went anyway to Hollywood and Vine. My mom had never done a character breakfast before, and I had only ever done one character dinner, at Artist Point. I am so glad we did this one.

Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy all came by to say hello and we got so many pictures.

The buffet was delicious and my mom found plenty that was gluten-free. I loved the omelet station, so many veggies and meats to choose from, and the French toast was great too, plus a whole parfait station. It was wonderful all around.

Back to Back Shows That Never Get Old

After breakfast we watched the Walt Disney Presents film and looked around the museum area for a bit. I love that film and the chairs you get to sit in, and I love learning more about Walt every time.

From there we walked right into Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, grabbed seats in the back, and relaxed in the shade. It was warm out, but not unbearable sitting in the shade. That show is always perfection, every single time, every pointed toe and surly growl. Be Our Guest is my absolute favorite number and I could watch it again and again.

The timing worked out perfectly for us to walk straight over to the Disney Villains show after.

I also love that theater and those comfy seats. Every time I see it, it gets better, and the cast members seemed so much more into it this time, like they really understand the show and are more comfortable with their characters now. A really fun stretch of the morning.

Part 2 picks up right after this, once we shopped a little, watched a storm roll in, and made the call to head back to the hotel.
